EVENTS

  • 1500 Meter Walk / Unified Sports® Walk

  • 3000 Meter Walk / Unified Sports® Walk

  • 1500 Meter Run

  • 3000 Meter Run / Unified Sports® Run

  • 5000 Meter Run / Unified Sports® Run

  • 10,000 Meter Run

  • Eikiden Demonstration

 

ATTIRE

Proper running shoes are to be worn, with the exception of running spikes.  Shirt must be tucked into running pants.

 

AWARDS

Awards will be presented in Connelly Center Cinema on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.  Athletes who complete better than 25% of their entry time will be disqualified and receive a participation award.  Please update times by the first Head Coaches’ Meeting.

 

COURSE

Flags and/or pylons will mark the course.  Course marshals will be situated along the course during the competition.  Athletes and coaches will be able to inspect the course prior to the competition and on Friday afternoon between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

 

FACILITIES

There will be a “port-o-potty” available at the venue for athlete and spectator use.  Platoon Fitness will be coming in prior to the events for athlete warm-ups. 

 

NUMBERS

Numbers and safety pins will be provided upon check-in at the head coaches meeting Friday night for all athletes.

 

RULES  -- Download the Special Olympics Official Athletics Rules

A. Divisioning - Athletes will be divisioned based upon entry times.  Please be sure to submit the best competition time for this season to the hundredths of a second (e.g. 1:06.16) for better divisioning.  What is divisioning?

B.  Finish - The winner will be determined by the fastest person in each division.

C. Unified  

a.        One Unified Sports® Team will consist of a Special Olympics athlete and a non-Special Olympics Partner of comparable ability. 

b.       The place of finish will be determined by the combined time of both partners.

            4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.    10,000 Meter Run

Eikiden Run/Demonstration

            9:00 p.m.                      Head Coaches’ Meeting (Bartley Hall, Room 1011)

 

            Saturday, November 4th

            8:00 a.m.                      Registration (Tolentine Field)

            8:30 a.m.                      Platoon Fitness Warm-Up Athletes (Tolentine Field)

            9:00 a.m.                      Competition Begins

            9:00 a.m.                      5000 Meter Run

            10:00 a.m.                    1500 Meter Walk 1500 Meter Unified Sports® Walk

            10:30 a.m.                    1500 Meter Run

            11:00 a.m.                    3000 Meter Walk/3000 Meter Unified Sports® Walk

            11:30 a.m.                    3000 Meter Run

            12:30 p.m.                    Competition Ends

            2:00 p.m.                      Awards (Connelly Center-Cinema)

 

All times are estimates.  Events will begin at 9:00 a.m. and be run one after the other.

All competition should be finished by 12:30 p.m.

Special Olympics Pennsylvania provides year-round sports training and competition for over 26,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.  The organization offers over 300 local events and three major statewide event- Winter Games, Summer Games, and the Fall Festival - in 23 sports with the opportunity for athletes to advance to regional and international competition.
