the Tournament
CHINAR (Child Nuture and Relief) works to provide
a stable and nurturing environment for children in need, which encourages
and equips them to reach their highest potential and effectively meet
challenges in life. CHINAR is the official charity of the
Villanova Muslim Student Association.
Welfare - Not Warfare: One of the biggest
casualties of war is the future of its youngest victims. They grow up in
the shadow of gruesome violence and immense social change - often without
familial protection and guidance. These children become easy recruits for
all sorts of violent causes since their age and the psychological trauma
of violence makes them more susceptible to manipulation. CHINAR works for
the welfare of children of conflicts - especially orphans - by equipping
them with the means to have a productive and peaceful future. The main
focus of CHINAR programs is
* Psychosocial rehabilitation
* Teaching of non-violent means of conflict resolution
* Religious Tolerance
* Quality education
* Successful social integration
* Community involvement
During the 2004-2005 school year, the Villanova Muslim
Student Association has raised money at two different events: SAMOSA
Diwali Night and the annual MSA Ramadan Dinner. We would like to
give a special thank you to SAMOSA for letting us raise money at their
event. We have raised over $500.
NEWS UPDATE: (November 27, 2004) The
first group of orphans moves into CHINAR house in Srinagar.
